Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary, also known as Bac Lieu Bird Garden, is located in Nha Mat Ward, Bac Lieu City. It is regarded as a “fascinating corner of nature” in southern Vietnam and serves as a “home” to more than 160 rare bird species, many of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book and the global Red List.

This is the largest bird sanctuary in Bac Lieu Province.
In the past, this area was part of a coastal mangrove forest along the Bac Lieu shoreline. Due to natural sediment deposition, the land gradually moved farther away from the East Sea, creating favorable conditions for the ecosystem to flourish.

Recognizing its ecological value and tourism potential, Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary was designated as a Nature Reserve in 1986. In 2014, it was further recognized by the Government as a Species–Habitat Conservation Area.

Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary covers a vast area, including 19 hectares of primary forest and 366 hectares of mangrove forest. It is home to more than 160 bird species, many of which are rare, such as egrets, black storks, Asian openbills, purple herons, painted storks, and pelicans. The diverse ecosystem also supports other animal species, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, as well as 109 plant species.

Visiting Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary allows visitors to immerse themselves in pristine nature, enjoy fresh air, and explore a rich bird world. Visitors can walk along winding trails beneath the forest canopy, watch flocks of birds soaring across the sky, listen to melodious birdsong, and feel the peaceful atmosphere of this tranquil place.
